Nitrogen Recommendations

The dealers were asked what they base their nitrogen recommendations on, and the percentage of farmers who use these techniques. The top five methods used by the businesses (in order of percentage indicating) were farmer's yield goals (98%), manure and soybean credits ( 98% each), alfalfa credits (83%) and historical yields (81%).

When examining the percentage of farmers who use these various techniques, one sees the importance of methods differ between dealers and farmers. The top five methods used by the farmers to determine nitrogen rates were (in order of percentage indicating) soybean credits (89%), farmers' yield goals (74%), soil yield potential (70%), past practices (68%), and historical yields (66%).
