To better understand how we impact water quality, the project uses computer technology, water testing, and test plots to evaluate how we interact with the environment.

The project utilizes GIS (Geographic Information Systems)and
GPS (Global Positioning System) technologies to inventory
our natural resources, analyze which parts of the watershed
are most at-risk to pollution, and evaluate how human actions
can improve water quality. Click here to learn more...

Students evaluate the Battle Creek's water quality
by collecting stream organisms and water samples.
This "outdoor classroom" experience teaches students
that stream water quality can be measured in various
ways. Well water quality is evaluated from samples
collected by the Ida County Sanitarian.

Scouting the test plots helps producers evaluate
the effectiveness of their management plans
and current biotechnology. In this photo, young
corn plants are examined for European corn
borer feeding. Accurate and timely scouting
helps prevent unneccessary pesticide applications,
which could impair water quality.
