With the support of the North Central SARE, Iowa State University Extension is offering three mini-grant programs for research and travel related to sustainable agriculture.

The deadline for all applications is October 1, 2005. The funds may be used during 2005 and 2006. A focus of consideration will be whether the grant will benefit otherwise underserved audiences. More information (pdf)

Iowa youth through 12th grade are encouraged  to apply for 2004 Youth Sustainable Agriculture Grants to support innovative and creative sustainable ag projects this summer. The North Central Region Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education Program provides competitive grant support for sustainable agriculture research, education, and demonstration to farmers, scientists, educators, and public and private organizations. Applicants must reside in the North Central Region: Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin.

The national SARE program began with the 1985 Farm Bill. Congress appropriated initial funds in 1988 for grants in sustainable agriculture research, education and demonstration. Funding goes to producers, scientists, educators and public and private institutions and organizations in three grant programs. The North Central Region, managed by a diverse Administrative Council and directed by two regional coordinators, is one of four regions in the SARE Program.

The Organic Farming Research Foundation provides grants for up to $10,000 per project for research on organic farming.  Most grants are in the range of $5,000 to 7,000.    Proposal deadlines are January 15 and July 15, 2001.  To receive a copy of the procedures for grant applications, contact OFRF at P.O. grey small diamond The Iowa Energy Center will award up to $7,500 in matching funds to support conferences, workshops, and small demonstrations related to energy efficiency and renewable energy.  Grantees must be nonprofit or educational organizations, but collaborations with other organizations are encouraged. The grant is available for no more than 50% of an eligible project's cost. Guidelines are available from the Iowa Energy Center at: http://www.energy.iastate.edu/funding/gp-index.html. Deadline: None. Proposals must be received at least 6 weeks prior to the proposed start date.
