Long-term Rotation Study

It is important to look at the corn and soybean rotation as a system and not as two separate crops. There is such a small profit margin on these crops, risk is an important factor to consider when deciding on a rotation sequence. An alternating corn and soybean rotation minimizes risk compared to a two-year corn and one-year soybean rotation, and it is still the most profitable rotation sequence for most farmers in Iowa.

However, little is known about different corn and soybean rotations in Iowa and if current management practices need to be adjusted when we deal with different rotation sequences. This study is addressing that question.

This study is funded by Golden Harvest and Iowa State University.
