Soybean Living Mulch Study

The living mulch study is designed to demonstrate an alternative management system for corn and soybean that protects water quality and offers other environmental and economic benefits.

Specifically, we are comparing corn and soybean yield in a kura clover living mulch system to yield in a traditional production system, and comparing the runoff and nitrogen availability to crops in the living mulch system to that of a traditional system. We are evaluating other possible environmental and economic benefits of this alternative production system as well.

Collaborator on this project is Dr. John Sawyer, Iowa State University.

This study is funded by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.
