High Yielding Soybean Study
From 2004 through 2006 an extensive yield project ("Soybean Yield Potential in Iowa") was conducted in Iowa to define management areas that have positive impacts on soybean yield. Based on this study recommendations have been made to implement these practices. However, specific reasons for the yield response to these management practices were not answered in these studies.
Understanding the reasons for the yield increases is necessary, because they highlight conditions where the yield benefit may or may not be realized and thus reduce the risk of implementing a management change in a non-conducive environment. The overall goal of this study is to determine the reasons for the yield responses to planting date, row spacing, and maturity group selection and the interactions between these factors.
