Soybean Aphid Project
This study was designed to evaluate the role that soybean genotype playd in the management of soybean aphids and associated viruses. We studied the colonizing behavior and virus transmission patterns of the soybean aphid across a range of soybean genotypes in a combination of greenhouse, field, and laboratory studies.
The questions we addressed in this study were:
1) Does soybean genotype influence the population dynamics of the soybean aphid?
2) Should action thresholds be modified for different soybean genotypes?
3) Does soybean genotype influence the efficacy and agronomic benefit of insecticides?
4) Are the population dynamics of the aphid are correlated to the transmission of viruses?
Collaborators on this project were Dr's. John Hill and Marlin Rice, Iowa State University, and Eileen Cullen and Craig Grau, University of Wisconsin-Madison.
This study was funded by Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board and Iowa State University.
