Water runoff that carries sediments follows the shortest path to lower elevations. Often fence lines and ditches start to slow runoff velocities.
Severe water erosion during a rainfall event that is basically washing out a fence line and ditch.
Large amounts of sediments being deposited along the fence line and road ditch in late spring.
Lake reservoirs can be filled with sediments from inlet streams.
Wind erosion in Northeast Iowa in the spring of 2002.
Wind erosion from an adjacent conventionally tilled field in West Central Iowa.
Sedimentation from wind erosion.
Sheet and Rill Erosion. Sheet erosion is the loss of a uniform, but thin layer of the soil surface from the landscape caused by un-channeled runoff. Sheet erosion rarely occurs due to the almost immediate riling after precipitation begins.
